Keyboard Layout for the Main Language

The keyboard layout is a set of connections between symbols and keys on the keyboard. It is now suggested that you should select a keyboard layout for the main language.

Aside from entering symbols in the main system language, any Linux system gives users an opportunity to input Latin symbols (names of commands, files, etc.). For this, the standard English keyboard layout is used. It is possible to switch among layouts for different languages using the key specified for the given layout type.

For Russian, the following layout types are available:

• Russian Win (period and comma symbols are entered by the key in the lower right-hand corner of the keyboard)
• Russian (period and comma symbols are entered by Shift+7, Shift+6 key combinations)
• Russian (Yawerty) (Russian symbols are attached, wherever possible, to keys of similar-sounding English letters)
