What does the Artelope Conduit do?

The Artelope Conduit allows you to use the drawings you make with Artelope on a Windows-based PC.  It downloads each Artelope page to a separate file on the PC, ready to be included in your documents.
How do I install it?
Unzip the ArtelopeConduit.zip file into its own directory.  Then, run Setup.exe.  This should automatically copy the correct files into the correct places.  It will also restart HotSync.
How does it work?
Whenever you HotSync, the Artelope Conduit will download all pages in Artelope and store them as separate Windows bitmap ("BMP") files in a folder in your Palm directory.
How can I find the pages after I HotSync?
Look in C:\Palm\xxx\Artelope, where "xxx" is the subdirectory in the Palm directory that corresponds to your user ID.  (Typically, this subdirectory is the first six letters of your last name followed by the first letter of your first name.  Alan Turing's subdirectory would be TuringA).  If you can't find this directory, search your system for "Page1.BMP" and you should find the correct directory.
Is there any way to go in the other direction -- sending images from the desktop to the handheld?
Not currently.  I will work on this if there is enough interest, though.
I use an old version of Artelope.  Will this conduit work with it?
It should.
How do I uninstall the conduit?
Run the "Uninstall.exe" program that came with the installer.  Alternatively, just set the conduit to "Do Nothing" by right-clicking on the HotSync icon in the system tray and selecting "Custom."
Installation didn't work!
OK, don't panic.  Try the following:
  1. Copy the ArtelopeConduit.dll to the C:\Palm directory.
  2. Double-click the "quirepat.exe" icon.
  3. Restart HotSync.
If that doesn't work, E-mail me.  My contact information is available from the Artelope support page.
What good does a BMP file do me?  I want GIFs and JPEGs!
You'll have to use image conversion utilities to make those.  Artelope pages won't always look great as JPEGs, because the lossy compression in JPEGs can make the black-on-white drawings a little fuzzy.  I didn't include support for GIFs because I didn't have the time, and am also a bit concerned about patent issues.  Anyone with Windows is bound to have at least something that can read and print BMPs, so I went with that option.
What good does a Windows conduit do me?  I want Macintosh and Linux!
While I might write a Linux conduit if I get enough interest for one, the only Mac I own is an antique PowerBook 170.  Maybe if someone wants to buy me a new Mac, I'd go for writing a Mac conduit.
OK, cut to the chase.  How much?
The Artelope Conduit is free.  You should feel free to use it for as long as you like and to redistribute to anyone, for any reason.  (However, I prefer that you distribute Artelope Conduit with Artelope).  However, Artelope itself is not free; it is shareware, $12.  To register Artelope, go to http://www.artelope.com/.  Consult the license file that came with Artelope for more details.

Because Artelope Conduit is free, it comes with no warranties and you must install and use it at your own risk.  Thus, THIS SOFTWARE IS PROVIDED BY THE COPYRIGHT HOLDERS AND CONTRIBUTORS ``AS IS'' AND ANY EXPRESS OR IMPLIED WARRANTIES, INCLUDING, BUT NOT LIMITED TO, THE IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF  MERCHANTABILITY AND FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE ARE DISCLAIMED. How can I contact you?  Do you have a website?
Yes; go to http://www.artelope.com/ to learn about updates, get my current E-mail address, or to register.

Instead of listing my contact information here, I will ask that you check the web site for the most current info on how to contact me.

OK, I'm totally lost, here.  What is Artelope?
Artelope is a real-time shape-recognizing drawing app for the Palm OS.  You can learn more about it, and download it, from the Artelope web page.
