The goal is to prevent enemies from getting from one side of the map to the other by placing towers along their way. There are over a dozen different buildings with upgrades, tech research, and a whole lot of maps to try your defense skills on! Sqdef also has a built-in editor that allows you to make your own maps and share them with others. Visit the Sqdef site http://artraid.com/sqdef/ for more things, including downloads of new map packs. Read the game instructions below to get the most out of Sqdef! +----------------+ | | | INSTALLATION | | | +----------------+ Extract the 'Sqdef' folder anywhere on your SD card, and run 'Sqdef.gpe'. Each time Sqdef detects new maps (like after a new install, or after you download a new map pack) it will write a hiscore file for each new map. The progress of this is displayed on the bottom status bar of the loading screen - please do not turn off your GP2X during this time in order to avoid potential file corruption. You can upgrade from Sqdef 1.2, 1.2A, 1.3, and 1.3A by overwriting the old 'Sqdef' file with the new one. If you have a version older than 1.2, please delete the entire 'Sqdef' folder before installing Sqdef 1.4. You can check what version you have by going to 'Extras'->'Credits' in the main menu. +---------------------+ | | | GAME INSTRUCTIONS | | | +---------------------+ ALL MENUS (this also applies to the in-game HUD) -> You select items with the joypad -> You confirm the selected item with B -> You cancel or go back with X STARTING A NEW GAME -> Select 'New Game' -> Select a map pack -> Select a map GAME -> Move the cursor with the joypad -> Moving the cursor over a building automatically selects it -> The building does +50% damage on the orange creature that appears top-left -> Press B on a selected building to open the selling menu -> Press A on a selected building to open the upgrade menu -> Pressing A again is equivalent to selecting 'MAX' -> Not all buildings are upgradeable, but those that are... :-) -> Press Y to switch the HUD on/off -> Press Select to start a new wave -> Press R to toggle fast-forward on/off (fast forward runs the game at 5x the normal speed) -> Press L to save a screenshot (saved in 'Sqdef/Screenshots') -> Press Start to pause the game HUD -> A grayed item means that you cannot afford to buy it -> The building does +50% damage on the white creature that appears top-right SPECIAL BUILDINGS -> Each building (except Quad Fortress) has a specific creature type on which it does +50% damage -> When building a Turret, the green circle indicates the maximum upgradeable range -> Same goes for the Armory -> Build a square of four Barricades or Split Barricades (can also be a mix) to form a Quad Fortress -> Only a Lvl 1 Armory can boost the damage of a Quad Fortress, since Lvl 0 cannot fully cover it -> You can only build one Scythe, so choose its location carefully PAUSE -> Press Start to resume the game -> This menu lets you save the current game in one of the 4 slots -> Select 'Surrender' if you want to end the current game and get your score EDITOR -> You can only load maps from the 'Maps/Editor' folder -> Press Start to open/close the editor menu -> Press B to draw a road segment -> Press X to clear a road segment -> When inside the map -> Press A to draw a horizontal bridge -> Press Y to draw a vertical bridge -> When on the map border -> Press A to define start tile -> Press Y to define finish tile -> Press Select to toggle between normal mode and close mode -> In close mode you can draw/clear dirt tiles New maps are saved in 'Maps/Editor'. If you want to make your own map pack, simply create a new folder in Maps, for example 'Maps/NewPack', and place all the new '.sqmap' files inside it. Don't worry about the Hiscores folder, Sqdef takes care of that automatically. +-------------+ | | | DONATIONS | | | +-------------+ If you enjoy playing Sqdef, please consider making a PayPal donation to encourage my work! http://artraid.com/sqdef/ (my PayPal address is my e-mail, artraid@gmail.com) Any amount is appreciated, and in return I will add your name to the game's credits.
